We know how sharing experiences and offering learning can empower people. At Masadir Media we have institutionalised this concept into what we call “Learning Thursdays” in which a team member delivers a topic of his or her choosing to benefit the team and offer them a new learning experience. In the past, team members have presented leadership exercises, ways in which to use software packages to help us deliver better productions, demonstrate how to cook “Shami Foul” through to a tour of the history of advertising.
In today’s Learning Thursday session, our editor Erick Retania shared with us the personalities who inspired and continue to inspire him. Those include Michael Jordan for his tenacity, Steve Jobs for his vision, Ted Williams for his perseverance, Efren Peñaflorida for his initiatives to draw teens away from gangs and into education, Arnel Pineda whose talent and hard work landed him a lead position with Journey the band.
After Erick’s presentation, members of TeamGB offered a name or two of people who inspired them: Mahmood with Thomas Edison who built on failures and never let those detract him from the end goal, Mazen with his father who changed his life from poverty to build a leading concern in Amman and beyond, Janine with Malala and her vision and steadfastness to get girls educated, Suzanne with Opera and how she has changed her circumstance to be on of the most effective and powerful women in our age and Ayan with Sachin Tendulkar, the famous cricketer and the greatest batsman the game has known and how he continues to put in the effort at every single game although he sometimes is the oldest on the field.
Today’s session, as you can see, has been very inspiring on several levels. The topic was electric and very well chosen.
Based on this inspiration, we at Masadir Media, are re-introducing an initiative to serve our community. We each will get one voluntary full work-day a month to do something for charity; be that offering photography or video making services, walking dogs, helping the poor, working in kitchens, visiting hospitals, or whatever a team member feels passionate about. All team members have to do is declare their intentions and away they go.
We are all passionate about giving back to our community. So watch this space for some of the efforts our team members will be contributing to the Bahraini society!
